Locksmith Horror Stories: What We’ve Been Through
When you've been locked out, you can count on a locksmith to get you back in. However, as locksmiths, we can only hope that the person hiring us is the actual owner of the place.
To ensure we are opening the doors for the right person, we always ask for a picture ID so that we can match the person with the address of the property. However, at times, the ID may not be available as it may actually be locked inside. In this case, we always tell the person that as soon as we get inside, we will require them to show us a utility bill addressed to them. It's always important to let the client know that if they are not able to produce ID verification, then you will call the police immediately. Of course, that doesn't work all the time. We have had our fair share of locksmith horror stories, and we are sharing them below.
Our Locksmith Horror Stories
Some of the things that we have gone through as locksmiths are just unbelievable, to say the least. Below are some of our crazy locksmith stories.
The Lady in a Robe
One time we received a call from a woman who said that her front door would not lock. We sent in one of our guys who got the shock of his life when he found that the woman was only dressed in a robe, almost naked. As he started working on the door, the woman just started walking around, flirting with him, which was really kind of strange. Our locksmith says that he did all he could to get the lock fixed as the situation was really starting to get awkward.
After he was done, he quickly handed her an invoice, and instead of the woman giving him the money, she invited him to sit down for some wine. Fortunately, he was saved by a phone call, leaving the woman with no choice but to pay up. The look on his face when he got back to the office was just priceless.
The Drunk Who Didn't Want to Pay
We got a call from a man who had locked his car keys inside his car. As usual, one of our mobile locksmiths hurried to the location. When he got there and had taken a look at the situation, he told the man how much it would cost to open the car lock for him, and he agreed. Our trained locksmith went right ahead and managed to open the car door and retrieve his car keys. That's when he started trying to negotiate the price downwards because in his reasoning, “it only took a few seconds to open the door.” The locksmith tried to explain to him that we charged a flat fee which is not determined by the amount of time that the job takes, hoping he would understand. That's when he got louder and tried to make a scene. Through it all, we tried to talk to him nicely, but he just wouldn't listen, and we've had enough of it. So, the locksmith simply opened the door and tossed the keys back in. He made sure that he locked the door before shutting it. Realizing what had just happened, the guy started to reason.
The Nasty Divorce
It's always crazy when you have to deal with divorce lockouts. I remember this time when we received a call from a woman who said she had been locked out of her home. When we got there, we managed to get inside and soon after, she asked us to change all the locks, which we gladly did for her. Luckily for us, she didn't have a problem paying for the job.
However, the next day, we received another call from a guy who said that he’d been locked out of his house. We got all confused when he gave us the same address as the woman from the day before. Upon further inquiry, we learned that they were going through a nasty divorce, and seriously, we did not want to get involved. So, we referred him to another company.
The Dead Body
As a locksmith, there are situations that you wish you would never run into, but at the end of the day, you have to do your job. A few years ago, we received a call from this couple who were landlords to a certain old lady. They said that they had not been able to see her for a few days and so they were worried. They wanted to gain entry into the residence of the old lady so that they could see what was going on. We agreed to do the job and managed to pick the lock. However, nothing could have prepared us for what we saw next. It looked like the lady had fallen while she was trying to get some water. This was witnessed by the broken glass that was scattered all over the floor, and her pills were right next to her. We immediately called the police, but the sight of that dead woman has stayed with us to this day.
Conclusion
These are just some of the locksmith horror stories that we've collected over our many years in the field, and we are glad to say that we have managed to evade them. If you have gone through similar experiences, be sure to write to us, we'd like to hear all about it!
